LIFE FORM:   Small tree to about 25 ft. widening at the crown and multi-branching. 

ELEVATION RANGE: 500-2,400 ft.  Hawaii island, found naturalized in Puna, Hilo and Hamakua.

ENVIRONMENT:   Dry to wet, good drainage.  Rocky, disturbed areas and roadsides.  


Why grow this?


Neneleau is great gap filler. The plant will grow tall and thin in shady areas, shorter and spreading branches out at the top, in sunny places.     The tree produces showy flower spikes in various shades from yellow to red.  Flowers are highly attractive to honeybees.
