LIFE FORM:  Sprawling shrub.

ELEVATION RANGE: Naturalized range 400 - 2,600 ft;  found in landscaping at higher elevations.

ENVIRONMENT:  Native to open sun, dry and rocky or sandy environments but has been known to grow in mesic forests and filtered sun.
Why grow this?

Ma‘o-hau-hele is the flower of the state of Hawai‘i.  Plants produce medium sized yellow hibiscus flowers 1 or 2 times per  year, during dry periods and looks interesting even without flowers.  This hearty plant is drought tolerant.  

Endangered status:   Be sure your vendor provides permits for each of the plants you buy.
